Dr. Jerald Cooper already knew what a great group of doctors and mentors he would work with before joining FWO. That’s because he was a patient of the Practice as a local high school athlete. He later went on to play football at Butler University. Spending many hours following his father, Roanoke’s town doctor for almost 40 years, at his office and at the hospital along with his own athletic experiences made sports medicine a natural choice.
For Dr. Cooper helping those in need has been a core part of his life. Since 1998 he has made more than 30 trips to East Africa leading short-term mission teams to teach, train, and perform surgeries in Kenya and Uganda. He’s also heavily involved with disadvantaged children's education – including orphans and refugees.
When Dr. Cooper isn’t taking care of patients, he can be found running for exercise, attending one of the many meetings on his calendar or working in support of a charitable organization.
